Meet
Our Pastor

Pastor Mark Miller began serving Bethel UMC in 2017. He and his wife Mary Jean have been married for 29 years. Mary Jean is an associate professor at Radford University. Together they have two grown sons, Ethan and Aaron.

Prior to his calling to ministry, Mark held jobs in the culinary arts in various hotel chains and as a chef at James Madison University. Following that, he managed an exterminating company over 17 years before entering pastoral candidacy in 2008.

Mark finished the requirements for pastoral service at Duke Divinity in 2015 and has been in ministry, including 5 years at Bethel, for a total of 12 years.

Pastor Mark describes his ministering theology saying,  "I am a Scriptural Pastor, in my preaching, teaching, and all other areas of pastoral ministry. I believe the Bible is the One True and Living God’s Holy Word, and letter of love to His creation. I believe Jesus Christ is God’s only Son, and He is my personal Lord and Savior. I believe, teach and preach that Jesus Christ is the only path unto eternal salvation."

Favorite Scripture: “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18,  (NKJV)

Favorite John Wesley Quote: “You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore, spend and be spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most. It is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance.”

Favorite life quote: “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”    Theodore Roosevelt, “The Man in the Arena”
